RTG Week: Dr Rebecca Newton on the energising effect of finding joy in our work
Here at IHG, we pride ourselves on regularly bringing our teams enriching experiences to help them grow professionally and personally.
Our first ever Room to Grow Week is the perfect example. This series of global roundtables, workshops and discussions is focussed on personal and career progression.
To kick off Room to Grow Week in style, hundreds of IHG colleagues from around the world set aside their to-do lists to take some time out and reflect on their career progress with an interactive and insightful session from revered organisational psychologist, Dr Rebecca Newton.
As CEO of CoachAdvisor, Senior Visiting Fellow at London School of Economics, author and regular contributor to Forbes and Harvard Business Review – Dr Newton was uniquely positioned to offer our team the very best insight around the power of joy and energy in positive career progression:
“It was a pleasure to spend time with IHG discussing how to be proactive and intentional about building a career that is both energising and rewarding. Thanks to all the participants for being so engaging, open and passionate. Wishing you all the best on your career journeys as you seek out critical career experiences and find that positive stretch!”
Over the course of the session, Dr Newton explored techniques to help our people get a better understanding of their unique strengths, building strategies to tackle their career gremlins and some practical advice around creating proactive and authentic conversations. With plenty of questions and contributions flying in from colleagues across the globe along the way.
Session host, IHG Manager of Global Leadership Development, Stefan Nemecek, found the workshop invaluable:
“Thank you so much to Dr Newton, it was such an insightful, empowering and mind-opening session. We’re proud to be able to give our people Room to Grow and the tools and advice shared in this workshop will hopefully help many of the hundreds of colleagues that joined us take a positive next step in their own career journeys with IHG.”
