Crowne Plaza Christchurch, an IHG hotel, is an iconic location in the heart of Christchurch city. We have a strong passion for developing great people and are looking for a Sous Chef to join us on our journey as we continue our business growth.

This is an opportunity for a creative and strategic leader to be involved in a large culinary operation and lead the development of innovative and market-leading dining concepts. This is your chance to truly shape the narrative of upscale dining.

Reporting to the Executive Chef you’ll support all culinary operations including Marketplace Restaurant, 1851 Social Bar & Champagne lounge, high tea, banqueting and in room dining. You will have deep involvement in coaching and mentoring our team, menu design and ensuring our culinary offering is always to the highest standard. Key responsibilities include:

Staff training and overseeing the preparation and presentation of a consistent food product which meets guest expectations.

Maintain hygiene standards and practices including HACCP certification.

You'll be diligent and adhere to local regulations concerning health, safety, or other compliance requirements, as well as brand standards and local policies and procedure.

Promote a team culture that enables and empowers your team to deliver a unique culinary experience that brings the brand to life.

About you

You’ll be a hands-on leader with the ability to positively coach and motivate the team to succeed and develop them towards their goals.

Ideally you will have at least 5 years’ experience in a commercial kitchen environment with minimum 3 years in a supervisory position. Experience in a hotel kitchen would be advantageous.

You also need to bring great communication skills, a proven track record of working autonomously and a positive approach. 

You’ll be a motivated team player with strong culinary skills and a real passion for food. 

You’ll be available to work a rotating 7 day roster including mornings, evenings, weekends and public holidays. 

You must have the right to live and work in New Zealand.
