What is the job?
This is a senior Engineering role in a full-service hotel with a variety of facilities. As Chief Engineer you are responsible for the overall maintenance operations of the hotel to ensure safety and comfort of hotel guests and team members.
Your day to day
• Build and maintain the technical competence and productivity of the maintenance team, and foster a climate that attracts, retains and motivates top quality talent
• Recruit and onboard new team members as required and provide constructive feedback to enhance staff performance.
• Conduct on the job training in accordance with the departmental standards and procedures and maintain a record of progress for each team member
• Prepare efficient departmental work schedule
• Recommend or initiate any HR related actions where needed
• Actively participate in all training sessions and ensure that any pre and post course work is completed by the due date.
• Promote the desired work culture and brand ethos around the IHG vision, Winning Ways, purpose, brand, and overarching IHG way of sales.
• Source and induct suppliers and contractors to perform required work
• Responsible for the general cost control aspects of maintenance, the preparation of departmental cost budgets and their implementation.
• Assist the Hotel in control of Capital Projects to ensure capital funding is effectively allocated and budgeted in accordance with company directives and philosophy.
• Contribute to the hotels profitability by ensuring the effective management of the buildings environmental controls and energy conservation systems. Evaluate, control and record energy usage and implement and upgrade energy conservation systems.
• Strictly adhere to IHG policy concerning the Trade Practices Act, Human Rights, and Gifts & Bribery
• Assist with the planning and implementation of an energy management program by establishing energy reduction objectives, the maintenance of records and regular reporting of performance against these objectives.
• Ensure adherence to all statutory regulations and fire codes by regularly reviewing policies and safety rocedures. Ensure that any tests and inspections required on plant by statutory authorities are carried out as and when required and that all records and documentation associated with such tests and surveys are correctly kept and/or displayed..
What we need from you
• Demonstrated Leadership experience in a similar role
• Tertiary or advanced vocational training, ideally within the fields of Mechanical / Electrical engineering, plus general building maintenance and/or construction or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Well-developed computer literacy and experience with automation and network cabling
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Strong organisational skills and ability to troubleshoot and prioritise workflow
• Demonstrated experience in capital planning, budgeting and project management
• Hotel experience preferred but not essential
