Role Purpose

The job holder has responsibility for the financial reporting of EMEAA based subsidiaries and branches. Key duties include the preparation of the Group quarterly financial reporting submissions under IFRS and the preparation of annual financial statements under UK GAAP. Close working relationships will be established with the Global Process teams, the Group consolidation team, Group Tax, Treasury and Company Secretariat. The job holder will also need to liaise with the external auditors on a regular basis and facilitate the audit of the statutory accounts. The role also has responsibility for ensuring that relevant Sarbanes-Oxley processes and controls are adhered to. The job holder will ensure that the Group’s accounting policies are adhered to and assist in the evaluation and implementation of new policies. Proficiency in PeopleSoft, Oracle FCC and Microsoft Office products will be required. Success is measured through the timely and accurate production of the Group’s quarterly financial reporting submissions and the annual financial statement filings of relevant EMEAA subsidiary companies.

Key Accountabilities

  • Review and understand trial balances extracted from PeopleSoft through enquiry and challenge of unusual and unexpected items.
  • Preparation of quarterly and year end Oracle FCCS reporting packs under IFRS for submission to the Group consolidation team in accordance with agreed deadlines, including the provision of value-added commentaries and supporting schedules as required.
  • Preparation of annual statutory accounts under UK GAAP, using Thomson Reuters as a statutory account software package, including liaison with the Group tax department, Group treasury and Company Secretariat. 
  • Co-ordinate the external audit of the Group reporting packs and annual statutory accounts.
  • Ensure statutory accounts have appropriate and accurate iXBRL tagging for the Inland Revenue year end tax filing requirements for each statutory entity.
  • Maintain a detailed and up to date knowledge of all matters related to IFRS, UK GAAP and other relevant regulatory accounting requirements.
  • Ensure that relevant Sarbanes-Oxley processes and controls are adhered to.
  • To establish good working relationships with the external auditors and thereby help to facilitate a smooth audit process. 
  • Respond to information requests from the Group tax department, both in the UK and US.
  • Help to ensure financial systems are developed and maintained to meet legal entity and Group reporting requirements.
  • Review current working practices with aim of undertaking process improvements/automations to streamline reporting. 
  • Assist Group financial reporting team with quarterly analytical review or valuation work.
  • To carry out investigations and such other duties as may be required including ad hoc project work.

Key Skills & Experiences

Education –

ACA or equivalent accounting qualification essential. Bachelor's or Master's Degree in a relevant field of work or an equivalent combination of education and work related experience.

Experience –

Minimum 2+ years of post-qualification experience in a financial reporting environment, either within the accountancy profession or in industry. Experience of producing financial statements under IFRS and UK GAAP essential. Exposure to the challenges of working in a global organisation preferred. PeopleSoft and Oracle FCC experience an advantage. Hotel industry background preferred.
